Dot-matrix printers produce characters and illustrations by striking pins against an ink ribbon to print closely spaced dots in the apporpriate shape. They can print on multi-page forms (carbon copies).
The speed of this type of printer is measured in characters per second (cps). It can range from 50cps to 500cps. Most of this printers offer different speeds depending on the quality of print desired.
Its print quality is determined by the number of pins they have. It can vary from 9 to 24 pins. A 24 pins dot-matrix can produce near letter quality type. Dot-matrix printers do not produce high quality output.
Because dot-matrix are impact printers they are more noisy.
