Coaxial

Coaxial Cable and its Diagram

This wire consists of a center wire surrounded by insulation and then a grounded shield of graided wire. The shield minimizes eletrical and radio freqcuency interference.

This interface is use by cable television and widely use for computer networks (Ethernet). It is more expensive than telephone wire, but it is much less susceptible to interference and carry much more data.

Twinaxial

Twinaxial Cable

This interface uses three (3) wires. Two wires are insulated in the center of the cable. The other conductor surrounds the first two conductors and they are separated by a layer of insulation. This type of cable is used to connect IBM AS/400 servers to its devices. Also, there are some printers that still uses this interface.

* In terms of computer systems both of these interfaces are obsolete.
